THE INDIAN FORMATION WILL BE IN ŁÓDŹ AGAIN

Bhangra Desire International Folk Art Club will appear on our stage once again. The group takes part in folk festivals around the world, promoting Indian culture and taking participants on a musical journey full of colours, smiles and spontaneous dance.

The basic idea of the club’s activities is to find a balance between contemporary youth culture and their national heritage. It is perfectly reflected in modern bhangra – an Indian dance that delights with its combination of a riot of colours, energetic movements, the rhythmic sound of the dhol (a drum hung on the shoulders and struck with sticks on both sides) and the Punjabi language.

Bhangra is a traditional form of dance and music originating from the Punjab region of India and Pakistan. It was originally performed by farmers during Waisakhi, the Punjabi spring festival. Nowadays, it is used to describe a type of pop music that combines elements of Western rock and traditional Punjabi sounds.

As the club’s founders emphasize, bhangra is more than dance. Students gain leadership, teamwork and communication skills. They also become more self-confident. However, they could not achieve all this without discipline and regular training.

The dancers of Bhangra Desire International Folk Art Club always have a smile on their faces – so it’s no wonder that they quickly won the hearts of Łódź residents and other festival participants and this year they would like to invite us to join in the fun once again.
